Note: The town of Devin is located on the Danube River in the southeastern part of the Rhodopes in southern Bulgaria. It was the site of a 9th century castle said to be the seat of the short-lived kingdom of Great Moravia. The French Napoleonic army destroyed the castle in 1809. The town is noted as the site of the first all-Slav rally in 1945 after Moravia was restored to Czechoslovakia. Today it is known mainly as a spa resort with an abundance of mineral hot springs near the town.
