Hierarchy of Denisova Cave (prehistoric site)  Denisova Cave (prehistoric site)

Note: Among important archaeological discoveries in this cave is a human-like finger bone that through DNA analysis was found to be hominin species that was probably separate from both Neanderthal and modern humans, known tentatively as "X woman"; the female from whom the bone derived lived in Central Asia between 48,000 and 30,000 years ago. Bracelets and other ornaments were found at the same layer as the bone, but it is unknown if they were deposited by "X woman" or modern humans.
