Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Kickapoo Tribe of Indians, one of three federally-recognized Kickapoo tribes in the United States. The reservation spans approximately 4,879 acres in Brown, Atchison, and Jackson Counties, Kansas. Though the Kickapoo peoples resided in present-day Illinois until 1882, a series of treaties signed between 1795 and 1854 shifted their homelands and splintered the tribe into disparate bands. Consequently, the Kickapoo Tribe of Indians were relocated to Kansas; their reservation was subsequently established by a federal treaty dated May 18, 1854. |
