Note: Rare-earth metallic element having symbol Sc and atomic number 21. Scandium is a soft, silvery-white metal which does not tarnish in air. It was discovered in 1879 but predicted a decade earlier and given its initial name, ekaboron.

Dutch ..... Metaalelement met symbool Sc en atoomnummer 21, een zeldzame aarde. Scandium is een zacht, zilverachtig wit metaal dat niet dof wordt onder invloed van lucht. Het werd in 1879 ontdekt, maar tien jaar eerder was het al voorspeld, waarbij het de oorspronkelijke naam 'ekaboron' kreeg.
