Note: The culture and ethnic group of the traditionally itinerant people of Ireland. Their language today, Shelta, is based heavily on Hiberno-English with heavy influences from Irish. Scholars dispute the origins of the people, but documentary, linguistic, and DNA evidence indicate that the peoples existed as far back as the 13th century, 300 years before the first Rom populations arrived in the British Isles. |
