Note: A toxic and reactive reddish gas, NO2, nitrogen dioxide is an atmospheric pollutant (as in photochemical smog) produced by combustion of fossil fuels. Exposure to nitrogen oxide can cause fading of dyes and organic colorants in paints, textiles, and photographs, as well as deterioration of calcareous stone.

Stikstofdioxide of NO2, een giftig en reactief roodachtig gas, is een atmosfeervervuiler (zoals in fotochemische smog) die wordt geproduceerd bij de verbranding van fossiele brandstoffen. Blootstelling aan stikstofdioxide kan vervaging veroorzaken in verfstoffen en de organische kleurstoffen in verf, textiel en foto's, en afbraak teweegbrengen in kalkhoudend gesteente. |
