Note: Chancel screens surmounted by a cross or crucifix, and which evolved from 'rood beams.' Rood screens are often richly adorned and are sometimes double with vaulting between and a rood loft on top. The French term of 'jubé' derives from the Latin phrase Jube domine benedicere ("Let us bless the Lord"), which is often said by Catholic priests before the lesson while standing in front of the screen; some jubés have a balcony or platform from which to preach to the laity. |

Chinese (traditional) ..... 上置十字架或耶穌受難像之聖壇圍屏。十字架屏常具華麗裝飾,有些還設計成以拱形結構連接之雙屏,並於其上設置十字架廂臺。法語之jubé(「聖障」)一字,源自天主教司鐸在講道前,立於十字架屏前常說的一句拉丁語Jube domine benedicere(「讓我們讚美主」);有些聖障含露台或平台,可立於其上對俗眾講道。 |
Dutch ..... Te gebruiken voor koorschermen waarop een kruis of crucifix is geplaatst. Koorhekken zijn vaak rijk gedecoreerd en komen soms in een dubbele vorm voor, met gewelfbogen ertussen en een doksaal daarboven. De Franse term 'jubé' is afgeleid van Jube domine benedicere ('Heer, wil mij zegenen'), een Latijnse zin die vaak voor de mis door de katholieke priester wordt uitgesproken terwijl deze voor het scherm staat; sommige jubés zijn voorzien van een balkon of verhoging waarop de priester de gemeente toespreekt. |
