Note: Refers to art works created by scratching or engraving a design into a board or other surface that has been prepared by covering with ink, so that the color of the board shows through the scratched design. Colored wax or paint may be applied to create a design on any paper board, or the board may be commercially produced "scratchboard." India ink is often used to cover the wax or paint. A stylus or other sharp instrument is generally used to scratch or scrape away the design.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 指稱運用刮刻或將圖案雕刻在已有墨水覆蓋其上之木板或其他表面上的藝術作品，因此木板的顏色就可透過刮刻而出的圖案顯現出來。亦可將上色的蠟或顏料塗在任何紙板上來創作圖案，或者使用大量製造的商業化「刮畫板」。印度墨水常被用來覆蓋蠟或顏料。通常是以尖筆或其他尖銳的器具刮刻或刮掉圖案設計。 |
| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar kunstwerken die worden gemaakt door een ontwerp te krassen of te graveren in karton of een ander oppervlak dat is geprepareerd door het te bedekken met inkt, zodat de kleur van het karton zichtbaar wordt in het ontwerp. Er kan gekleurde was of verf worden gebruikt om een ontwerp te maken op willekeurig karton of er wordt commercieel gemaakt ‘schaafkarton’ gebruikt. De was of verf wordt vaak bedekt met Oost-Indische inkt. Het krassen of schaven van het ontwerp gebeurt in het algemeen met een naald of een ander scherp instrument. |
