Note: Japanese spike fiddles having a long neck, square body, parchment belly and back, and from two to four strings. They are held vertically by the kneeling players and rotated to select the appropriate string to be sounded by the bow, which always follows the same path.

Additional Notes:
Chinese (traditional) ..... 指日本的釘狀琴腳提琴,具有長琴頸、正方形琴身、羊皮製琴肚和琴背、及二至四根不等的琴弦。演奏者成跪姿,垂直持琴演奏,拉弓的位置不變,以不時懸轉琴身,來找尋適合的角度拉弓演奏。 
Dutch ..... Spiesvedels met vierkante klankkast, boven- en achterblad van perkament, lange hals, 2-4 snaren, bespeeld met strijkstok; Japan. 
German ..... Japanische Spießgeige mit langem Hals, viereckigem Korpus, Decke und Boden aus Pergament und zwei bis vier Saiten. Sie wird senkrecht vom knienden Spieler gehalten und gedreht, damit die entsprechende Saite mit dem Bogen gestrichen werden kann. 
Spanish ..... Veilles japonesas de mástil largo, cuerpo cuadrado, vientre y dorso de pergamino, y de dos a cuatro cuerdas. Se sostienen en forma vertical por ejecutantes arrodillados y se rotan para seleccionar la cuerda que ha de ser tocada por el arco, siguiendo siempre el mismo patrón
