Note: Devices for trimming the wicks of candles and lamps to keep the end of the wick even and clean; usually in the form of scissors with one blade bearing a boxlike receptacle to catch the cut-off ends of the charred wick. For scissorlike devices with flat disc-shaped ends used for pinching out a candle flame, use "douters." For cone-shaped devices used to extinguish flames, use "extinguishers."

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Instrumenten voor het afknippen van de pitten van kaarsen en lampen om het uiteinde van de pit gelijkmatig te maken en schoon te houden; meestal in de vorm van scharen met een doosvormig bakje aan een blad om de afgeknipte eindjes van de verkoolde pit op te vangen. Voor schaarachtige instrumenten met platte, schijfvormige uiteinden die worden gebruikt om een kaarsvlam uit te knijpen wordt 'douters' gebruikt. Voor kegelvormige instrumenten die worden gebruikt om vlammen te doven wordt 'dompers' gebruikt.
