Note: Chairs having a rather low seat and a padded top rail, designed to allow male spectators of card games to astride while resting their arms or elbows on the top rail. The term is derived from the French verb "voir," "to see." First made in France about 1740 and later in England. For a lower-seated variant of this chair designed for women, use "voyeuse á genoux."

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Franse benaming uit de 18e eeuw voor stoelen met een lage zitting en een opgevuld bovenstuk aan de achterkant waarop een zittend persoon de ellebogen kan neerleggen als er schrijlings op de stoel wordt gezeten. Dit type werd voor het eerst gemaakt in Frankrijk rond 1740, en later ook in Engeland. 
German ..... Stuhl mit relativ niedrigem Sitz und gepolstertem Lehnabschlussbrett, der so konstruiert war, dass männliche Zuschauer eines Kartenspiels rittlings darauf sitzen konnten, während sie ihre Arme oder Ellenbogen auf dem Lehnabschlussbrett abstützten. Der Begriff leitet sich von dem französischen Verb „voir“, „sehen“ ab. Erstmals um 1740 in Frankreich, später auch in England hergestellt. Für eine niedrigere, für Frauen konzipierte Variante dieses Stuhls, siehe „Voyeuse à genoux". 
Spanish ..... Término francés del siglo XVIII para sillas más bien con asientos bajos con la parte superior del respaldo acolchada sobre la que un ocupante puede descansar los codos cuando se sienta a horcajadas en el asiento. Fabricados por primera vez en Francia alrededor de 1740 y más tarde en Inglaterra.
