Note: Long heavy blades with a handle on one end and an upturned prong on the other end of the blade, used with a stout staple in a bench; the prong is placed under the staple and wood is pared away from a block, log, or other wood piece by levering the knife down. An example of use for a block knife is in the traditional manufacture of wooden clogs.

| Dutch ..... Lange zware lemmeten met aan het ene uiteinde een handvat en aan het andere uiteinde een omhoog gedraaide punt, gebruikt met een stevige haak in een werkbank; de punt wordt onder de haak geplaatst en het hout wordt weggesneden van het blok door met gebruik van de hefboomwerking het mes naar beneden te bewegen. Een voorbeeld van het gebruik van een blokmes is het haalmes in de traditionele productie van houten klompen. |

Lange, schwere Klinge mit einem Griff an einem Ende und einem nach oben gerichteten Zinken am anderen Ende der Klinge, die mit einer stabilen Öse auf einem Arbeitstisch verwendet wird; der Zinken wird unter der Öse platziert und Holz wird durch das nach unten Hebeln des Messers von einem Block, Scheit oder einem anderen Holzstück geschält. Ein Anwendungsbeispiel für die Nutzung eines Pfahlmessers liegt in der traditionellen Herstellung von Holzschuhen. |
