Note: A tough, gritty sandstone used for building, found in Yorkshire and other areas of England; it is the principal stone of the Southern Pennines, the heart of the gritstone region. It is characterized by the angularity and large size of its quartz grains. There are many varieties of gritstone, some of which are quite strong. It was quarried by the Romans, was in use again before the Norman Conquest, and continues to be used in modern times.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 一種質地粗糙的沙礫狀砂岩,當做建材使用,產於英國境內的約克郡(Yorkshire)及其他地區,是構成粗砂岩區中心南本寧山脈(Southern Pennines)的主要岩石種類。其特徵為有稜有角,並含有大型石英顆粒。粗砂岩有很多種,其中有些質地相當堅硬,古羅馬人曾加以開採,諾曼人征服英國(Norman Conquest;西元1066年)之前才又再度為人開採使用,之後持續使用至現代。  
Dutch ..... Een harde en korrelige zandsteen die wordt gebruikt voor bouwwerkzaamheden. Het is te vinden in Yorkshire en andere gebieden in Engeland. Het is de belangrijkste steensoort in het zuidelijke deel van het Penninisch Gebergte, het hart van het gebied waar grove zandsteen wordt gewonnen. Kenmerkend zijn de hoekigheid en de grote kwartskorrels. Er zijn verschillende soorten grove zandsteen, waarvan sommige erg sterk zijn. Het werd gewonnen door de Romeinen, raakte opnieuw in gebruik vóór de Normandische verovering en wordt ook in onze tijd nog gebruikt. 
Spanish ..... Arenisca dura y arenosa utilizada en construcción y que se encuentra en el Yorkshire y otras regiones de Inglaterra. Es la principal piedra de los Peninos Meridionales, corazón de la región de la arenisca. Se caracteriza por la angularidad y gran tamaño de sus granos de cuarzo. Existen muchas variedades de arenisca, algunas de las cuales son bastante sólidas. Fue extraída por los Romanos, utilizada nuevamente durante la conquista de los Normandos y sigue siendo utilizada en la época moderna.
