Note: Curtains located behind the royal door of an iconostasis, separating the nave from the sanctuary. Some Eastern churches have only the curtains without the iconostasis. In Christian theological interpretation, the New Testament reference to the rending of the temple curtains at Jesus' death came to signify his passing through the heavenly boundary, thus the curtain was continued in certain liturgies.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Gordijnen achter de koninklijke deur van een iconostase, die het schip van het sanctuarium afscheiden. Sommige oosterse kerken hebben de gordijnen zonder de iconostase. In de christelijke theologische interpretatie van het Nieuwe Testament verwijst het scheuren van het voorhangsel van de tempel bij de dood van Jezus naar zijn overschrijding van de hemelse grens. Daarom heeft het gordijn in sommige liturgieën zijn plaats behouden.
