Note: Genus containing various annual grasses of wide climatic adaptability that have been cultivated for food since prehistoric times and are now cultivated in most temperate areas for the grain they yield, particularly T. aestivum and T. turgidum. The tall stalks (about 1 m) have heads of grain that are primarily ground into flour for pasta and bread. Wheat grain is also used for making starch, alcohol (beer), and feeding livestock. It contains carbohydrates (70%), proteins (11-15%), minerals, and vitamins. The wheat straw (stalks) are used for fodder, papermaking, and bedding.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 屬名，包含許多種能夠適應各種氣候狀況、年度收成的草本植物，自從史前時期就被栽培種植做為食物，現在則是栽種於氣候溫和的區域，以便採收其所結出的穀粒，特別是小麥（T. aestivum）和圓錐小麥（T. turgidum）。高大的麥桿（大約一公尺長）頂部結有穀粒，主要是磨成麵粉以製作麵糰和麵包。小麥的穀粒也被用來製作澱粉、酒精飲品（啤酒）及餵食家畜。小麥的成分包含 70% 的碳水化合物、11%-15% 的蛋白質，以及礦物質與維他命。小麥的稻草（麥桿）則可用來做為飼料、造紙和家畜睡臥用的草墊。

| Dutch ..... Genus van verschillende eenjarige grassen die zich goed kunnen aanpassen aan verschillende klimaten en die men al sinds prehistorische tijden verbouwt als voedsel. Tegenwoordig wordt tarwe in de meeste gematigde gebieden verbouwd vanwege het graan, met name T. aestivum en T. turgidum. Aan het eind van de lange stengels (ongeveer 1 meter lang) zitten aren met graankorrels die men vermaalt tot meel voor pasta en brood. Tarwemeel gebruikt men ook als veevoer en voor het maken van stijfsel en alcohol (bier). Het bevat koolhydraten (70%), proteïnen (11-15%), mineralen en vitaminen. De strohalmen (stengels) van de tarweplant gebruikt men voor het maken van papier en als droog veevoer en ligstro. |
