Note: Chairs or thrones of a bishop in his cathedral church, in which he presides at solemn functions. The form is based on the ancient Roman cathedra. Originally the bishop's cathedra stood in the center of the apse, flanked at a lower level on either side by the benches where the assisting priests sat.

Additional Notes:

Dutch ..... Romeinse stoelen met een ronde rugleuning op verticale staanders en met gebogen poten. Tevens de zetel of troon van een bisschop in zijn kerk.

German ..... Stuhl oder Thron eines Bischofs in seiner Kathedralkirche, von dem aus er der heiligen Messe vorsitzt. Seine Form basiert auf der alt-römischen Cathedra. Ursprünglich stand die bischöfliche Cathedra im Zentrum der Apsis und wurde zu beiden Seiten von einer Bank auf niedrigerem Niveau flankiert, auf der die Vikare saßen.
