Note: Species of medium-sized tree native to the British Isles, Europe, and North Asia, but naturalized in the U.S. and elsewhere. Its wood is tough, strong, and lightweight, but is prone to decay. The stems (withies) are used for basketmaking. Charcoal made from the wood was used in the manufacture of gunpowder. The bark was used for tanning leather. The common name refers to the fact that the undersides of the leaves are white in color. In some classifications may be divided into subspecies, including Salix alba ssp vitellina.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 原生於不列顛群島、歐洲與北亞的中型喬木物種，但也被移植到美國及其他地區。白柳的木質堅韌、強固且質輕，但是易於腐朽。其細枝常用於編織籃子，取自其木材的炭條則可用來製造槍托，樹皮可用於鞣製皮革。其俗名乃是指稱葉片背面呈現白色，在某些分類法中將其分為幾個亞種，其中包括Salix alba ssp vitellina亞種。 |
| Dutch ..... Middelgrote boom die inheems is op de Britse eilanden, het vasteland van Europa en Noord-Azië, maar ook is ingevoerd in de VS en andere gebieden. Het hout van de boom is licht, hard en sterk, maar heeft de neiging snel te rotten. De twijgen gebruikt men om manden te vlechten. De houtskool die men van het hout maakte, gebruikte men voor de productie van buskruit. De schors werd gebruikt voor het looien van leer. In het Engels noemt men de boom ���white willow', omdat de onderkant van de bladeren wit zijn. In sommige classificaties wordt deze soort onderverdeeld in twee ondersoorten, waaronder Salix alba vitellina. |
