|
Note: Species of large, deciduous timber and forest tree originally found throughout North America. However, a fungus, Oriental chestnut blight, imported in the early part of the 20th century killed most of the trees. Before the species was devastated, it was one of the most important forest trees throughout its range. There are now very few mature specimens of the tree within its historical range, although many small sprouts of the former live trees remain.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 作為森林樹或木材用的大型落葉喬木種，原生於北美洲各地。然而，由一種真菌所引起的栗疫病（Oriental chestnut blight）於西元二十世紀初期傳入，使得大多數的栗樹因此枯死。在這此樹種受到災害摧殘之前，為其生長帶中最重要的森林樹木。現今在其原本生長區域中，雖仍留存有許多之前樹木所發的嫩樹芽，但僅倖存極少數的老樹樣本。 |
| Dutch ..... Grote bladverliezende productieboom en in bossen voorkomende boom die inheems is in geheel Noord-Amerika. Een schimmel met de naam kastanjekanker die per ongeluk werd geïntroduceerd in het begin van de twintigste eeuw doodde echter de meeste bomen. Daarvoor was het een van de belangrijkste in bossen voorkomende bomen in zijn verspreidingsgebied. Er zijn nu nog maar enkele volwassen exemplaren binnen het oorspronkelijke verspreidingsgebied, hoewel er nog wel veel kleine spruiten zijn van bomen die zijn doodgegaan. |
