Note: Largest class of the phylum Mollusca, consisting of about 65,000 species living in the ocean, fresh water, and on land. The name means "belly-footed," referring to the broad tapered foot on which these animals glide. Includes snails, which have a shell into which the animal can withdraw, and slugs, which differ from snails in having shells that are reduced to an internal fragment or completely lost.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 為軟體動物門中的大綱,包含約六萬五千種棲息於海洋、淡水以及陸地的生物。Gastropoda的意思是「腹足」,指其寬大且朝尾端漸細,可用以滑行的肉足。蝸牛為此綱的成員之一,具有外殼,而身體能縮回殼中。蛞蝓亦屬腹足類,與蝸牛不同之處在於牠們的殼已簡化,僅剩一部分的內殼,甚至已完全消失。
