Note: Heavy swords of the 15th and 16th centuries, having a long rigid blade of square or triangular section, and originally a simple cross hilt with a relatively long grip, used primarily for thrusting. In the late 16th century the hilt acquired a more developed guard.

Additional Notes:
Chinese (traditional) ..... 十五和十六世紀的重劍,劍刃長而堅硬,剖面為方形或三角形。劍柄原本為簡單的十字狀,帶有相對較長的把手。主要用來刺擊。在十六世紀晚期,劍柄開始具有更先進的護手。 
Dutch ..... Rapieren met extreem lange stijve kling van ruitvormige doorsnede bedoeld om door een harnas te dringen, gebruikt door ruiters. 
Spanish ..... Espadas pesadas de los siglos XV y XVI, consistentes en una hoja larga y rígida de sección cuadrangular o triangular, y originariamente una sencilla guarnición en cruz con una empuñadura relativamente larga, usadas fundamentalmente para estocadas. En las postrimerías del siglo XVI la empuñadura adquirió una guarnición más rica.
