Note: Light civilian swords with a moderately long blade, a small guard with one or two shells, and arms of the hilt. Developed in the early 17th century, they became a standard part of gentlemen's fashionable dress until the late 18th century, surviving into the 20th century as part of court or ceremonial dress. |

Dutch ..... Degens met een eenvoudig gevest, doorgaans met vuistbeugel, stootplaat en bril en met een kling van ongeveer 70 cm, onderdeel van het kostuum (beslag heeft dezelfde knopen als het kostuum of uniform); sinds midden 17e eeuw. |
Spanish ..... Espadas civiles livianas con una hoja medianamente larga, una pequeña guarnición con una o dos conchas, y brazos en la empuñadura. Desarrolladas a comienzos del siglo XVII, pasaron a formar parte de la vestimenta elegante de un caballero hasta las postrimerías del siglo XVIII, permaneciendo hasta entrado el siglo XX como parte de la vestimenta cortesana o ceremonial. |
