Note: Designates the prehistoric culture and period (4th to 1st centuries BCE) and culture of the Indochina region of Southeast Asia. Stylistic developments of this period are generally viewed as the basis of the civilization of the region and are later modified by Indian and Chinese influences. The period is most noted for the development of large stone monuments as religious shrines. Bronze works flourished in this period and feature ritual kettle drums, household wares, masks cast by the cire perdue method, ceremonial axes made as emblems of power, and elaborate drum designs of varied sizes. Bronze productions were often adorned with human and animal relief patterns that mimicked designs woven into textiles. The spiral was a popular motif in this period, appearing as decorative touches on textiles and bronzes.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de prehistorische periode (4de tot 1ste eeuw v. Chr.) en cultuur van de regio Indochina in Zuidoost-Azië. Met de stijlontwikkelingen in deze periode, die later onder Indiase en Chinese invloed zou komen, is de grondslag gelegd voor de beschaving in deze regio, zo wordt algemeen gedacht. De periode wordt vooral gekenmerkt door de ontwikkeling van grote stenen monumenten die als religieuze heiligdommen fungeren. In deze periode maakte het bronswerk een grote bloei door: rituele keteltrommen, huishoudelijk gerei en maskers vervaardigd met de verlorenwasmethode, ceremoniële bijlen die als machtssymbool fungeerden, en rijk bewerkte trommels van uiteenlopende grootte. De bronzen producten werden vaak gesierd met menselijke en dierlijke reliëfpatronen die waren afgeleid van geweven ontwerpen in textiel. De spiraalvorm was een populair motief in deze periode en verscheen als decoratief element op textiel en bronswerk. |

Los avances estilísticos de este período generalmente son vistos como la base de la civilización de la región y son modificados posteriormente por las influencias indias y chinas. El período es más conocido por el desarrollo de grandes monumentos de piedra como altares religiosos. Las obras de bronce florecieron en este período y presentan timbales rituales, cerámica casera, máscaras vaciadas por el método de cera perdida, hachas ceremoniales fabricadas como emblemas de poder y elaborados diseños de tambores de tamaños variados. Se adornaron a menudo las producciones de bronce con modelos de relieve humanos y animales que imitaron diseños tejidos en los textiles. El espiral fue un motivo popular en este período y aparece como toques decorativos en los textiles y bronces. |
