Note: Species of bromeliad native to tropical and subtropical America, but introduced elsewhere and widely grown in greenhouses. It has 30 to 40 stiff, succulent leaves closely spaced in a rosette on a thick, fleshy stem. It bears a large multiple fruit that develops from a conical spike of flowers. It is used for food, winemaking, and fiber.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Bromelia die inheems is in de tropische en subtropische gebieden in Amerika, maar inmiddels ook elders is geïntroduceerd en op grote schaal wordt gekweekt in broeikassen. De plant heeft 30 tot 40 dicht op elkaar geplaatste en stijve maar sappige bladeren in de vorm van een rozet om een dikke, vlezige stam. De grote vrucht is samengesteld en ontwikkelt zich uit een kegelvormige bloeikolf. Men gebruikt de vrucht vanwege de vezels, als voedsel en om wijn te maken.
