Note: General term referring to members of many species in the order Artiodactyla, including well-known large grazing mammals such as cattle, goats, sheep, deer, antelope, camels, and llamas. Ruminants digest food by regurgitating semi-digested cud to re-chew it in order to extract the maximum possible food value. Ruminants are often divided into suborders Ruminantia and Tylopoda. Other other large grazing mammals such as kangaroos and horses are not strictly ruminants, although they have similar adaptations for surviving on large quantities of low-grade food.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 偶蹄目中許多物種的通稱，包括眾所周知的大型食草哺乳類，如牛、山羊、綿羊、鹿、羚羊、駱駝與大羊駝。反芻動物藉由將半消化的反芻食物湧回再次咀嚼來消化食物，以便盡可能吸收食物的營養價值。反芻動物通常又分為反芻亞目與胼足亞目。其他大型食草哺乳類，如袋鼠與馬，並非真正的反芻動物，然而他們對大量的粗糙食物具有類似的適應行為。 |
