Note: Cuprous sulfide occurs in the form of black powder or lumps and is found as the mineral chalcocite. Large quantities of the compound are obtained by heating cupric sulfide (CuS) in a stream ofhydrogen. Cuprous sulfide is insoluble in water but soluble in ammonium hydroxide and nitric acid. Its applications include use in solar cells, luminous paints, electrodes, and certain varieties of solidlubricants.

| Dutch ..... Kopersulfide komt voor in de vorm van zwart poeder of zwarte brokken, en wordt aangetroffen als het mineraal chalcociet. Grote hoeveelheden van deze verbinding worden verkregen door verhitting van kopersulfide (CuS) in een stroom waterstof. Kopersulfide is niet oplosbaar in water, maar wel in ammoniumhydroxide en stikstofzuur. De verbinding wordt toegepast in zonnecellen, lichtgevende verf, elektroden en bepaalde vaste smeermiddelen. |
| Spanish ..... Sulfuro de cobre que se presenta en forma de polvo o bloques negros, que se encuentra como un mineral, calcocita. Se obtienen grandes cantidades del compuesto al calentar sulfuro de cobre (CuS) en una corriente de hidrógeno. El sulfuro de cobre es insoluble en agua pero soluble en hidróxido de amonio y ácido nítrico.
