Note: A coarse variegated marble, quarried on the island of Proconnesus, present-day Marmara Adasi, Turkey, that is either gray, white, or white with gray stripes. Large quantities of this marble were imported to Greece to be carved into sarcophagi. Also called Cyzican marble because it was used extensively in Cyzicus, present-day Belkis, as it was in Constantinople as well. |

Dutch ..... Een ruw, bont geschakeerd marmer, gedolven op het eiland Proconnesus (het tegenwoordige Turkse eiland Marmara Adasi), dat grijs, wit of wit met grijze strepen is. Grote hoeveelheden van dit marmer werden geïmporteerd in Griekenland en tot sarcofagen gehakt. Ook Cyzicaans marmer genoemd, omdat het zeer veel werd gebruikt in Cyzicus, het huidige Belkis. Het werd ook zeer veel gebruikt in Constantinopel. |
Spanish ..... Mármol grueso estriado extraído de canteras en la isla de Proconnesus, actualmente Marmara Adasi, Turquía. Es gris, blanco o blanco con bandas grises. Grandes cantidades de este mármol fueron importadas a Grecia para ser talladas en forma de sarcófagos. Llamado también mármol cyzicano, porque se usaba generalizadamente en Cyzicus, actualmente Belkis, y también en Constantinopla.
