Note: Refers to the term denoting Japanese style painting, first used in the mid-9th century to describe the works produced by Japanese artists that differed at first in subject matter, and latter in style, from paintings produced under Chinese influence. The present day usage of the term has taken on a much broader meaning, encompassing not only Japanese themes, but also formats and styles considered to be uniquely Japanese. Typical Yamato-e themes include the four seasons and pictures of famous places. There was also a strong link between Yamato-e and Japanese style poetry, the content often translated into images on folding screens and sliding doors.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 詞彙意指日本風格繪畫，首度用於九世紀中葉，用指日本畫家繪製的作品，最初是題材不同於受中國影響的畫作，後來則是風格不同。今日此詞彙的意義已擴大，不侷限於日本主題，也包括認定為日本特有格式及風格的作品。典型的大和繪主題包括四季以及著名地點的繪畫。此外，大和繪與日式風格的詩也有密切的關係，詩作的內容常以圖像繪製於折疊屏風與拉門。 |

Verwijst naar de term voor de Japanse schilderstijl die halverwege de 9de eeuw voor het eerst werd gebruikt om het werk van Japanse kunstenaars te beschrijven dat zich, eerst in onderwerp en later in stijl, onderscheidde van werk dat onder Chinese invloed werd gemaakt. Tegenwoordig is de betekenis van de term veel breder en vallen hieronder niet alleen Japanse thema's, maar ook uniek Japanse vormen en stijlen. Karakteristieke thema's van Yamato-e zijn onder andere de vier seizoenen en afbeeldingen van beroemde plaatsen. Er bestond ook een sterke binding tussen Yamato-e en de Japanse poëziestijl, waarvan de inhoud vaak werd vertaald naar beelden op kamerschermen en schuifdeuren. |

El uso del término ha adquirido hoy un significado mucho más amplio, abarcando no sólo temas japoneses, pero también los formatos y los estilos considerados únicamente japonés. Los temas típicos de Yamato-e incluyen las cuatro estaciones y cuadros de lugares famosos. Había también un acoplamiento fuerte entre Yamato-e y la poesía japonesa de estilo, el contenido se tradujo a menudo a imágenes en los biombos y las puertas deslizantes. |
