Note: Structures that originated in Greek architecture, comprising freestanding colonnades or covered walkways, or long open buildings with the roof supported by one or more rows of columns parallel to the rear wall. Stoas surrounded marketplaces and sanctuaries, forming places of business and public promenade. Rooms could back onto the colonnade, and a second story was sometimes added. A famous example of a stoa was the great hall at Athens, which was adorned with frescoes of the battle of Marathon, and in which Zeno lectured, giving the name to his disciples, "Stoics."

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 源自希臘的建築結構，由獨立列柱或具頂蓋之走廊組成，或指具屋頂之敞開式長形建築物，其屋頂由平行於後牆之單列或多列型柱子支撐。柱廊環繞於市集與神廟周圍，形成可供人們進行交易與散步的場所。列柱之後有些建有房室，有些則會增建第二層樓。著名柱廊之一，是位於雅典的「大堂」，其上飾有描繪「馬拉松戰役」之壁畫，哲學家芝諾曾在此講課，並將其學派命名為「斯多噶」。 |
