Note: Genre including works that are primarily utilitarian in form or function, but that have aesthetic value provided by the design, decoration, or embellishment. They may include ceramics, furniture, textiles, glass, leather, metalwork, arms and armor, clocks, and jewelry, and other household or utilitarian objects. Het gaat bijvoorbeeld om keramiek, meubels, textiel, glas, leer, metaalwerk, wapens en wapenrusting, klokken en sieraden en objecten voor in het huishouden of andere gebruiksvoorwerpen. Het genre wordt onderscheiden van 'beeldende kunst', waarvoor van oudsher een uitgebreidere opleiding nodig verondersteld wordt, en dat beperkt is tot schilderen, tekenen, beeldhouwkunst en architectuur.
