Note: Early Minoan pottery named for a site near Phaistos, characterized by extensive use of painted lines instead of the earlier scored or burnished patterns and is known in two iterations. In the earlier phase, design typically was made of parallel or crosshatched painted red lines that swept around the curvature of buff clay vessels. In the later phase, painted red decoration was more formally designed, did not relate as much to the round form of the vessel, and typically was composed of crosshatched triangles or other simple geometric designs applied to the upper shoulder of jugs and jars, and to the interior or exterior of bowls and cups.

| Dutch ..... Vroeg-Minoïsch pottenbakkersgoed dat vernoemd is naar een vindplaats nabij Phaistos, en gekenmerkt wordt door het gebruik van geschilderde lijnen in plaats van de vroegere ingekraste of gepolijste patronen. Dit aardewerk werd in twee fases geproduceerd: in de vroege fase bestond het decoratieve ontwerp meestal uit geschilderde, parallelle of kruisende rode lijnen, die langs de rondingen van vaalgele kleien vaten liepen. In de late fase was de rode beschildering meer geformaliseerd en stond deze minder in verband met de ronde vorm van het vaatwerk. Doorgaans bestond de decoratie uit gearceerde driehoeken of andere simpele geometrische vormen, die werden aangebracht op de bovenschouders van kruiken en potten en de binnenkant van kommen en bekers. |
