Note: Structures housing entry doors that are attached to the main door to form an interlocking system of two sets of doors, or occasionally revolving doors, such as in churches, theaters, banks, clean rooms in laboratories, ships, etc. In secure systems, it is required that the exterior door is closed before the interior door is opened. Even if this security measure is not employed (such as in a church), the system serves to protect the interior from outside weather, light, and noise. It differs from a vestibule in that a vestibule is part of the floor plan, designed as integral to and attached to the architecture, while an entry cubicle is primarily separate and attached to the architectural entrance.

| Dutch ..... Constructies met deuren die toegang geven tot de hoofddeuren van een gebouw, waardoor een sluissysteem ontstaat met twee stellen deuren, of draaideuren, bijvoorbeeld in kerken, theaters, banken, schone kamers in laboratoria, schepen, enzovoort. Bij beveiligde systemen moet de buitendeur eerst dicht zijn voor men de binnendeur opent. Ook als deze veiligheidsmaatregel niet wordt toegepast (bijvoorbeeld in kerken), beschermt het systeem de binnenkant van het gebouw tegen licht en geluid van buiten en tegen wind en regen. Het verschil tussen een voorhal en een portaal is erin gelegen dat een portaal deel uitmaakt van het grondplan en met het gebouw is geïntegreerd, terwijl een voorhal een aparte constructie is die aan de hoofdingang is vastgemaakt. |
