Note: The balsam exudate obtained from several North American trees, including the longleaf pine, Pinus palustris, the Cuban pine, Pinus caribaea, and the loblolly pine, Pinus taeda. Gum thus is a thick, yellowish, sticky mass with a characteristic piney odor. It is used as an additive in oil paints, an insecticide, a polish, and as an antiseptic agent.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... De oliehoudende hars of balsem van pijnbomen in het zuiden van de Verenigde Staten, waaruit terpentijn en natuurhars worden verkregen. Wordt vooral in olieverven gebruikt. 
Spanish ..... Oleorresina o bálsamo de los pinos del sur de EE.UU., de la cual se obtiene la turpentina y la rosina (Mayer). Utilizada fundamentalmente en pinturas al óleo.
