Note: Distinctive performers in Italian comedy, subsequently in French light comedy, and in English pantomime. The character has many attributes of the clown with the addition of mischievous intrigue; he usually wears particoloured bespangled tights and a visor, and carries a light ‘bat’ of lath as a magic wand.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Artiesten in Italiaanse kluchten, later in Franse lichte komedie en in Engelse pantomime. Het personage heeft vele attributen van de clown, en haalt daarnaast ondeugende streken uit.
