Note: Beds designed with a very high canopy suspended from an ornate horizontal frame, attached to the wall behind the head or to the ceiling, and often supported by columns or posts at the foot of the bed. For beds of similar design, but of lesser height and bulk, without the supporting posts at the foot, use "lits à la duchesse."

| Dutch ..... Bedden die zijn ontworpen met een zeer hoge overkapping die aan een versierd horizontaal frame hangt dat aan de muur achter het hoofdeinde of aan het plafond bevestigd is, en vaak door zuilen of poten aan het voeteneinde wordt ondersteund. Gebruik 'lits à la duchesse' voor bedden van een soortgelijk ontwerp, maar lager en kleiner en zonder de ondersteunende poten aan het voeteneinde. |
