Note: Type of trouser that evolved into an undergarment worn by the Celts and Saxon tribes. By the late Middle Ages, they were only used as undergarments. During the 13th century the length of braies varied from ankle length, mid-calf, or to the knees. They generally had full seats and legs, and no waistband, but a tubular hem, through which a girdle was cinched. By the late 15th century, braies had shortened to the length of modern underwear or trunks.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Type broek die evolueerde tot onderkleding, gedragen door de Kelten en Saksische stammen. In de late Middeleeuwen werden ze alleen als onderkleding gebruikt. Tijdens de 13e eeuw varieerde de lengte van de braies van enkellengte, het midden van de kuit, of tot aan de knieën. Ze hadden over het algemeen volledige zitvlakken en broekspijpen, en geen tailleband, maar een buisvormige zoom waardoor een gordel vastzat. Aan het eind van de 15e eeuw waren de braies verkort tot de lengte van modern ondergoed of boxershorts.
