Note: Items comprising two quadrilateral segments, or later discs, connected to each other by two strings or bands in such a manner that, when the bands rest on the shoulders, the front segment rests before the breast, while the other hangs down an equal distance at the back. The segments may contain various images or symbols. These small scapulars developed from the larger cloak-like scapulars. Small scapulars are worn by various religious orders and laity; they may be worn over clothing or under, against the skin.

| Dutch ..... Kledingstukken bestaande uit twee vierhoekige delen, of later ronde schijven, die zodanig met elkaar verbonden zijn door twee koorden of linten dat wanneer de linten op de schouders rusten, het voorste deel voor de borst hangt en het andere deel op dezelfde hoogte achter de rug. De delen kunnen diverse afbeeldingen of symbolen bevatten. Deze kleine scapulieren voor leken ontwikkelden zich uit de grotere scapulieren, die als schouderkleed worden gedragen. Kleine scapulieren worden door diverse geestelijke orden en door leken gedragen. Ze kunnen over de kleding worden gedragen of eronder, op de huid. |
