Note: A hydrous silicate of copper having a green or sky-blue, a shining luster, often opal-like in texture, and used as a gemstone. It has been gathered or mined as a semiprecious stone since 3000 BCE. The translucent to opaque stone is typically greenish or sky-blue in its natural state, but appears true green when ground into a fine powder, which is used as a pigment.

| Dutch ..... Een waterhoudend kopersilicaat met een groene of hemelsblauwe kleur, een stralende glans en een vaak opaalachtige textuur dat wordt gebruikt als een edelsteen. Het wordt sinds 3000 v.Chr. verzameld en gedolven als een halfedelsteen. De doorschijnende tot ondoorzichtige steen is in natuurlijke staat meestal groenachtig of hemelsblauw, maar lijkt echt groen als het wordt vermalen tot een fijn poeder dat als een pigment wordt gebruikt. |
