Note: Silver spoons with the top of the handle surmounted by a small statuette of an apostle. Apostle spoons were intended for personal use at table and were highly popular in England ca. 1490-1675; they were also made on the Continent, especially in Germany. Sometimes apostle spoons were made as sets of thirteen, a dozen featuring the apostles and another topped with a figure of Jesus Christ, a so-called master spoon. Spoons featuring small statuettes of saints have also been called apostle spoons. In the 16th and 17th centuries apostle spoons were seemingly popular as christening presents. Silver-plated versions were made in the 20th century for use as demitasse spoons.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Zilveren lepels waarop boven aan de steel een beeldje van een apostel is aangebracht. Apostellepels waren bedoeld voor persoonlijk gebruik aan tafel en waren ca. 1490-1675 zeer populair in Engeland; ze werden ook op het Europese vasteland vervaardigd, vooral in Duitsland. Soms werden apostellepels gemaakt in sets van dertien, twaalf met de apostelen en de dertiende voorzien van een beeltenis van Jezus, de zogenaamde meesterlepel. Ook lepels met beeldjes van heiligen zijn wel apostellepels genoemd. In de 16de en 17de eeuw schijnen apostellepels geliefd te zijn geweest als doopgeschenk. In de 20ste eeuw werden pleetzilveren versies gemaakt voor gebruik als koffielepels. 
German ..... Silberlöffel, dessen Griffspitze von einer kleinen Apostelstatuette gekrönt wird. Der Apostellöffel war für den persönlichen Gebrauch am Tisch bestimmt und ca. 1490-1675 in Engand sehr beliebt; er wurde auch auf dem Festland gefertigt, insbesondere in Deutschland. Manchmal wurde der Apostellöffel als dreizehnteiliges Set hergestellt, ein Dutzend Löffel, die die Apostel darstellen, und einen weiteren, der mit einer Figur Jesus Christus' gekrönt war, ein so genannter Hausherren-Löffel. Ein Löffel, der eine kleine Heiligen-Statuette aufweist, wird ebenfalls Apostellöffel genannt. Im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert wurden Apostellöffel scheinbar als Taufgeschenk beliebt. Versilberte Versionen wurden im 20. Jahrhundert für die Verwendung als Espressolöffel hergestellt.
