Note: Refers to a type of embroidery that is drawn thread work done in white thread on white material. It is characterized by being worked in fine muslin, on which a variety of drawn fabric stitches are combined with designs of floral sprigs and other motifs executed in satin stitches so that the effect is somewhat akin to lace. Work of this type was know in 13th-century Germany and other places, but it is named after the shire or county of Ayr, Scotland, where the work was produced from 1780 on.

Dutch ..... Verwijst naar een soort ajourwerk waarbij een witte draad door wit materiaal wordt getrokken. Het wordt meestal verwerkt in fijne mousseline, waarop een verscheidenheid aan textielsteken is gecombineerd met bloemen en andere motieven, uitgevoerd in satijnsteken waardoor het wat op kant lijkt. Dit soort werk werd gemaakt in het 13de eeuwse Duitsland en elders, maar het is genoemd naar het graafschap Ayr in Schotland, waar het vanaf 1780 werd geproduceerd. 
German ..... Bezeichnet eine Art Stickerei, eine Fadenarbeit mit weißem Faden auf weißem Material. Sie ist gekennzeichnet durch die Verwendung von feinem Musselin auf dem verschiedene den Stoff durchziehende Stiche mit Mustern floraler Zweige und anderen Motiven ausgeführt mit Satin-Faden kombiniert werden, so dass der Eindruck von Spitze entsteht. Diese Art von Stickerei war im 13. Jahrhundert in Deutschland und anderen Orten bekannt, wurde jedoch nach der Grafschaft (shire) von Ayr, Schottland, benannt, wo sie ab 1780 produziert wurde. 
Spanish ..... Se refiere a un tipo de encaje, el deshilado, hecho en hilo blanco sobre material blanco. Se caracteriza por ser hecho en muselina fina, sobre la cual una variedad de puntadas deshiladas se combinan con diseños de espigas florales y otros motivos ejecutados con puntadas de satín para causar el efecto y semejanza al encaje. Este tipo de trabajo fue conocido en el siglo XIII en Alemania y otros lugares, pero es nombrado en el condado de Ayr, Escocia, donde éste fue producido desde 1780.
