Note: Ancient Japanese bronze bells of the Yayoi period, elliptical in cross-section with pointed ends, and in profile a tall trapezoid with a flat top, surmounted by a wide metal loop for suspension. They were cast in one piece, were highly decorated, and are believed to have served a ritual or symbolic rather than strictly musical function. A few surviving examples show signs of having held clappers.

Additional Notes:
Chinese (traditional) ..... 日本彌生時代的日式鳴鐘,交叉處呈橢圓狀,兩端尖突,其剖面圖為梯形,頂端扁平,被用作懸掛的金屬環覆蓋著。整個鳴鐘為一件式,裝飾精緻,相信有儀禮或象徵性的作用,而非僅有音樂性的功能。有些僅存的樣品則顯然有鐘舌的跡象。 
Dutch ..... Japanse bronzen klokken uit het Yayoi-tijdperk, die in doorsnede de vorm hebben van een ellips met puntige uiteinden, met een zijaanzicht in de vorm van een hoog trapezium met een platte bovenkant en omringd door een wijde metalen boog voor de ophanging. Ze werden in één stuk gegoten en rijkelijk versierd en men vermoedt dat ze eerder voor rituele of symbolische doeleinden werden gebruikt dan voor alleen muzikale doelen. Een klein aantal van de bewaard gebleven exemplaren hadden waarschijnlijk klepels 
German ..... Historische japanische Bronzeglocke der Yayoi-Zeit, im Querschnitt elliptisch mit spitzen Enden und in der Seitenansicht ein hohes Trapez mit einer flachen Spitze, überragt von einer weiten Metallschlaufe für die Aufhängung. Die Glocken wurden in einem Stück gegossen und waren reich verziert; es wird angenommen, dass sie eher rituellen oder symbolischen Zwecken dienten als musikalischen Funktionen im eigentlichen Sinn. Einige wenige erhaltene Exemplare zeigen Anzeichen, dass sie Klöppel hatten.
