Note: Wood of the species Platanus acerifolia. It is a hard, tough, light reddish-brown wood with a fine texture that polishes well, but can be difficult to work. It is commonly used for interiors, construction, tool handles, furniture, cabinetry, flooring, and veneers. Sold commercially as "lacewood" because the quarter-sawed wood has a grain pattern with characteristic flake-shaped markings, with reddish-brown rays contrasting with the lighter colored background resembling lace.

| Dutch ..... Hout van de boom behorende de soort Platanus hybridia, waarvan wordt aangenomen dat het een hybride oorsprong heeft en voor het eerst voorkwam rond 1670. De bomen zijn te vinden in parken en straten, maar komen voor zover bekend niet in het wild voor. De kleur lijkt op die van beukenhout, maar het hout heeft een aantrekkelijke vlektekening, met roodachtig bruine sporen die contrasteren met de lichter gekleurde achtergrond, waardoor het vaak kwartiers wordt gezaagd. Het wordt gebruikt voor het maken van decoratief werk, interieurs en kabinetten, en fineer. |
| Spanish ..... Madera del árbol perteneciente a la especie Platanus acerifolia, que se cree de origen híbrido y que apareció por primera vez alrededor de 1670. Se encuentra en parques y calles, pero no se sabe que exista en estado silvestre. La madera se asemeja a la haya en color, pero tiene un diseño muy atractivo de manchas pequeñas, con radios marrón rojizo que contrastan con el fondo más claro, dando origen al término madera de encaje. Se utiliza en la fabricación o en la decoración de interiores, en ebanistería, y en chapas. |
