Note: Wood of the species Castanea dentata; it is similar to oak with a light brown, coarse grain. The durable wood was widely used prior to World War II for paneling, framing, fence posts, rails, shingles, office desks, and coffins. Trees are have a limited range today; while formerly found throughout North America, they were largely killed off by a fungus in the 20th century.

Additional Notes:
Chinese (traditional) ..... 屬於美栗屬(Castanea dentata)樹木的木材,1904年之前原生於美國新英格蘭(東北六州)的南方。1904年時,樹幹附生性真菌促使該區樹木被全面性的砍伐,接著在被全面性清除後的區域改植其他物種。現今的分佈僅限於南安大略湖與南阿帕拉契山區,用於各種不同的辦公室桌子與設備、棺木和柱子等。 
Dutch ..... Hout van de boom behorende tot het genus Castanea dentata, inheems in het zuiden van New England tot 1904, toen een schimmel in de schors grootschalige kap noodzakelijk maakte en de vrijgekomen gebieden werden beplant met andere soorten. De boom is tegenwoordig alleen nog te vinden in het zuiden van Ontario en de zuidelijke Appalachen. Het hout wordt gebruikt voor het maken van schrijfbureaus, kantoorbenodigdheden, doodskisten en palen. 
Spanish ..... Madera del árbol perteneciente a la especie Castanea dentata, hasta 1904 era nativo del sur de Nueva Inglaterra cuando un hongo un hongo que infectaba la corteza precipitó el corte rápido y la reforestación con otras especies en los claros. Actualmente el suministro se limita al sur de Ontario y al sur de los Apalaches. Se utiliza para fabricar muebles de oficina y equipos, ataúdes y postes.
