Dutch ..... Regionale of inheemse Latijns-Amerikaanse vaten om vloeistoffen in te bewaren; vaak een soort schenkkan, soms met een diervorm. Belangrijke voorbeelden stammen uit de Mapuche-cultuur.

Spanish ..... Recipiente mapuche de uso doméstico utilizado para servir líquidos con base plana, cuerpo generalmente globular, cuello cilíndrico o troncocónico, de boca ancha sin vertedero y con asa vertical en la parte superior. Se observan diferencias formales, especialmente en el cuello, dependiendo de las diversas tradiciones culturales. Asimismo, metawe es un término genérico para las distintas variantes en el modelado, que incluyen tamaño (Fütametawe: grandes cántaros. Pichimetawe: pequeños cántaros) y/o sugieren formas animales y humanas (Ketrümetawe: jarro pato, Sañwemetawe: jarro chancho, Trewametawe: jarro perro, Chemetawe: jarro antropomorfo). Según Joseph en su investigación de 1931, la fabricación de metawe con formas específicas de animales occidentales se da como una alfarería posterior de factura mucho más cuidada con fines diferentes al uso doméstico. |
