Note: Handwoven rugs with pile in loops, made in Spain in the Alpujarras district south of Granada and elsewhere in Andalusia and Castile. The foundation is of linen, and the coarse woolen pile material runs along with the weft, each color pulled up above the surface in loops as needed in the design. It has about 20 loops per square inch. This technique may have been in use in the area for a long time, but surviving examples probably do not date before the 18th century. The patterns can be described as folk art and the colors, usually two but as many as ten, are strong. The Alpujarra's origins are probably Moorish. The construction of these rugs makes them more suitable for bedspreads.

| Dutch ..... Handgeweven kleden met luspolen, gemaakt in Spanje in het district Aljuparras ten zuiden van Granada en elders in Andalusië en Castilië. De basis is van linnen en de ruwe wol van de polen loopt langs het inweefsel, waarbij iedere kleur volgens het patroon in lussen boven het oppervlak wordt getrokken. Er gaan ongeveer 3 lussen in 1 vierkante centimeter. Deze techniek wordt mogelijk al lange tijd in het gebied toegepast, maar de nog bestaande exemplaren dateren vermoedelijk niet van vóór de 18de eeuw. De patronen kunnen worden omschreven als volkskunst en de kleuren, meestal twee maar soms wel tien, zijn krachtig. De alpujarras-kleden zijn waarschijnlijk van Moorse oorsprong. De constructie van de kleden maakt ze vooral geschikt als beddensprei. |
| Spanish ..... Pequeñas alfrombras con moños entrelazados (nudo alpujarreño) realizadas a mano en España, en el distrito de Alpujarra, al sur de Granada y en otros lugares de Andalucía y Castilla. La urdimbre es de hilo con gruesos manojos de material entrelazados a lo largo de la trama, cada color es alzado a la superficie en lazadas según las necesidades del diseño. Contiene alrededor de 20 lazadas por pulgada cuadrada. Esta técnica puede haber estado en uso en la zona por largo tiempo, sin embargo por los ejemplares hoy existentes éstos datan probablemente de no antes del siglo XVIII. Los diseños pueden ser descritos como de arte popular y sus colores, usualmente dos pero pueden llegar a diez, son intensos. El origen de las alpujarra es pobablemente morisco. La construcción de estas alfombras las hacen más adecuadas para bajadas de cama. |
