Note: In intaglio printmaking, impressions left on the sheet of paper or other support; a platemark marks the edges of the plate and is caused by the pressure applied in the process of printing. Although prints are sometimes trimmed within the platemark, prints having supports with the platemark intact are considered more valuable.

| Dutch ..... Bij intagliodruk verwijst deze term naar de indrukken die op het vel papier of een andere drager achterblijven. De tekens, die ontstaan door de druk op de plaat tijdens het drukproces, geven aan waar de rand van de plaat is. Soms worden prenten zodanig afgesneden dat de merktekens niet meer te zien zijn, maar prenten op dragers waarop de tekens behouden zijn gebleven, worden als waardevoller beschouwd. |
