foundation deposits (<object genres by function>, object genres (object classifications), Object Genres (hierarchy name)) |
|
Note: Ritual mud brick pits or holes dug at points of importance in Ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian temples or tombs during their construction. Votive offerings were set under the foundation of monumental buildings, or nearby, perhaps to commemorate or sanctify these structures. These may also have been made to identify the craft of a tomb occupant. |
