Note: Visual works, or parts of works, where the image or design is made with small pieces of specially shaped wood, ivory, or other materials, often incorporated into a suface of decorative veneer in furniture or interior surfaces. Distinguished from "inlays (decorations)," where decorative pieces are set into a solid ground; in marquetry work, the entire surface is veneered. For less complex designs made of veneer, prefer "veneering (visual works)."

Beeldmateriaal of delen daarvan waarbij de afbeelding of het ontwerp is gemaakt van stukjes speciaal gevormd hout, ivoor of ander materiaal, vaak verwerkt in een oppervlak van decoratief fineer in meubels of oppervlakken binnenshuis. Te onderscheiden van 'inlegsels', waarbij sierstukken in een vaste ondergrond worden aangebracht; bij marqueterie bestaat het hele oppervlak uit fineer. Gebruik 'fineerwerk' voor minder complex ontwerp van fineer.
