Note: Refers to a fine, openwork ornamental textile work formed by looping, interlacing, twisting, plaiting, or braiding threads of linen, cotton, silk, hair, metal, or another fiber to form designs or patterns. Lace may be made with a needle or with bobbins. Embroidery may be added. Modern lace may be made by machine. Openwork fabrics made on a loom and ornamental openwork knitting are generally not classified as lace. Lace is often white or monochromatic. True lace developed in the fourteenth century in Europe and the Middle East, although ornamented openwork fabrics were known in ancient cultures, including the Egyptian culture. Lace may be used as a border, edging, or insert on linens or apparel; it is also formed into large pieces of cloth used for hangings, draperies, apparel, or other items.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar fijn, decoratief ajourwerk in textiel, gemaakt door draden van linnen, katoen, zijde, haar, metaal of een andere vezel in lussen te leggen, in te rijgen, samen te draaien of te vervlechten om ontwerpen of patronen te vormen. Bij het maken van kant wordt gewerkt met een naald of met klossen. Het toevoegen van borduursels is niet ongewoon. Modern kant kan machinaal zijn vervaardigd. Ajourstoffen die op een weefgetouw zijn gemaakt en decoratief ajourbreiwerk worden doorgaans niet als kant geclassificeerd. Kant is vaak wit of effen van kleur. Echt kant ontstond in de veertiende eeuw in Europa en het Midden-Oosten, hoewel oude culturen bekend waren met gedecoreerde ajourstoffen, waaronder de Egyptische cultuur. Kant is te gebruiken als rand, boord of inzetstuk voor linnengoed of apparels. Ook wordt het samengevoegd tot grotere stukken textiel en dan gebruikt als voorhang, draperie, apparel of iets anders. |

Bezieht sich auf eine feine, durchbrochene Textilarbeit mit Ornamenten, deren Entwürfe oder Muster durch Verknoten, Verschlingen, Verdrehen, Verflechten oder Verschnüren von Fäden aus Leinen, Baumwolle, Silber, Haaren, Metall oder anderem Material entstehen. Spitze kann mit Nadeln oder mit Klöppeln hergestellt werden. Stickereien können hinzugefügt werden. Moderne Spitze kann maschinell gefertigt sein. Durchbrucharbeiten, die an einem Webstuhl entstanden sind oder ornamentale gestrickte Arbeiten werden generell nicht als Spitze bezeichnet. Spitze ist oft weiß oder einfarbig. Echte Spitze wurde im 14. Jahrhundert in Europa und dem Nahen Osten entwickelt, obwohl es auch in antiken Kulturen, wie in Ägypten, gemusterte Durchbrucharbeiten gab. Spitze kann als Borte oder Rand verwendet werden oder auf Leinen oder Kleidung befestigt; als große Stücke wird sie für Behänge, Tuchwaren, Kleidung oder andere Gegenstände verwendet. |

Refere-se a um trabalho têxtil ornamental fino e perfurado formado por laços, entrelaçamento, torção, trança ou trança de fios de linho, algodão, seda, cabelo, metal ou outra fibra para formar desenhos ou padrões. As rendas podem ser feitas com agulha ou com bobinas. Bordados podem ser adicionados. A renda moderna pode ser feita à máquina. Os tecidos perfurados feitos em tear e malhas ornamentais perfuradas geralmente não são classificados como rendas. A renda costuma ser branca ou monocromática.
