Note: The act of adding biological agents to contaminated environments in order to neutralize, remove, or break down contaminants; e.g., the process of biodeterioration induced by the introduction of bacteria into an oil spill. Het toevoegen van biologische middelen aan verontreinigde omgevingen om verontreinigende stoffen te neutraliseren, verwijderen of af te breken; bijvoorbeeld het proces van biologische aantasting dat wordt opgewekt door bacteriën in een olievlek in te brengen. Bioremediëring wordt gebruikt bij de conservering van steen voor de verwijdering van algen en andere organismen, en bij de zorg voor verzamelingen om op niet-toxische wijze ongedierte en plantenziekten te bestrijden. |
