Note: Objects that are improvised or makeshift, particularly those that are created to give new use to an old, broken, or cast-off item. Applies most often to items of clothing, furniture, or household items, for example, a new garment created from old items of clothing or a broken piece of mirror mounted in a new frame. The term is distinguished from "spolia," which refers to older architectural materials (e.g., ancient columns or carvings) built into a new fabric (e.g., a Medieval building).

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Geïmproviseerde of provisorische objecten, met name objecten die zijn gemaakt om oude, kapotte of afgedankte voorwerpen een nieuwe functie te geven. Meestal gaat het om kleding, meubels of huishoudelijke artikelen, bijvoorbeeld een nieuw kledingstuk dat is gemaakt van oude kledingstukken of een kapot stuk spiegel dat in een nieuwe lijst wordt geplaatst. De term is te onderscheiden van 'spolia', wat verwijst naar oudere architectonische materialen (bijv. oude zuilen of gravures) die in een nieuwe constructie zijn ingebouwd (bijv. een middeleeuws gebouw).
